The 2 days Rwanda gorilla trek is a special primate tour package designed to take you through a life-changing mountain gorilla trekking experience in one of Africa’s most visited gorilla parks- Volcanoes National Park. It combines up close with the massive mountain gorillas and Kigali city tour or cultural encounter in Iby’Iwacu village, Northwestern Rwanda.
Volcanoes National Park is set within the Ruhengeri region, Northwestern Rwanda and it is one of the oldest parks in Africa. It was created in 1925 the same year the Virunga N/Park in the D.R. Congo was founded. Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park covers 160sq.km and this compact land area consists of bamboo, rainforest, and other vegetation types.
On this special 2 days Rwanda gorilla trek, you will explore one of the park’s 12 habituated families of mountain gorillas. They include among others Hirwa, Kwitonda, Umubano, Amahoro, Susa A, Bwenge, Titus, Pablo, Susa B/Karisimbi, Ugenda, Sabyinyo and Agashya/Group 13.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Visit Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center & transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Day one of this tour will be for pick up from your hotel and this will be followed by a briefing. After, leave the hotel for a short city tour in Kigali expecting to spend 2 hours. Your areas of interest on the Kigali city tour include Kigali/Gisozi memorial, Kirimonko, and King’s palace.
The city excursion will be followed by a delicious meal early enough then you will be transferred to Iby’Iwacu cultural village. At Iby’Iwacu village, meet the Rwandese who will showcase their unique dances, and music performances before you, as well, get to know their traditions and cultures. Proceed to the gorilla lodge for a leisurely dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: A gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park.
Delicious breakfast will be provided to you early, after, report to Volcanoes N/Park headquarters to get briefed on safety guidelines while tracking the gorillas. As a standard rule, each group of 8 guests will be visiting a single habituated family and 12 groups of gorillas exist in Volcanoes National Park.
The 2-6 hours trek through the lush vegetation of Volcanoes NP will reward you with a magical encounter with the massive mountain gorillas in the wild. Observing their daily behaviors and photography of gorillas is guaranteed for one hour.
After a great time with these endangered species, retreat and proceed to the lodge to check out. The driver guide will take you back to Kigali city to relax at a hotel/lodge or drop you off at the airport to wait for your evening departure flight.
