The 4 days Nyungwe chimps and colobus monkey is ranked to be one of the most rewarding experiences that will give visitors who come there a chance of seeing the highest numbers of colobus monkeys and trek chimpanzees in the mighty Nyungwe national park. Take part in the city tour and visit the genocide memorial center and the Inema art center.
Nyungwe national park is one of the few places where visitors have a chance of looking at L’Hoest’s monkeys. From there you will head for chimpanzee trekking one of the closest relatives of man and then have a canopy walk in the evening from where head to Kigali city for your flight plans.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up at Kigali airport and take a city tour.
Upon your arrival at the airport in Kigali, your professional safari driver guide will be waiting for you and will pick you up and brief you shortly about the safari which will give you a clear picture of the rules and regulations to follow while on a Rwandan safari.
Immediately after briefing, drive heading to the city for a tour where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial centre which broke up in 1994 that claimed the lives of over 800,000 people. Have a look at the remains of the victims such as their belongings, weapons and their photographs which will give you the reality of the genocide and get much information about other genocides in the world.
From there drive to Inema art gallery which was started in 2012 by the two brothers in the names of Emmanuel Nkuranga and Innocent Nkurunziza purposely for developing the undeveloped art of the Rwandan people. You may like to take part in the art or buy the already made art goods such as animals and other creatures as souvenirs for remembrance. Drive to your hotel for your meals.
Day 2: Colobus monkey trekking
Enjoy your breakfast at your lodge and then head for colobus monkey trekking in the Nyungwe national park East Africa’s most diverse population of primates. The trek can be done well in the morning for easy sighting and see different monkey species such as the black and white colobus monkeys, the red colobus, and the rare L’Hoest’s monkeys all playing in the tree branches feeding on different plants giving you another chance to watch some bird life since the park is home for over 330 bird species all resident to the park. Capture some photos and return back to your lodge for your dinner.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
On this 3rd day of your 4 days, begin with a well-served breakfast at the lodge after which drive to the park headquarters for briefing and other formalities. After the briefing, move to the starting point where your armed ranger guide will lead you to the park and start looking for these chimps.
The activity takes 2-7 hours depending on the movement and location of these primates. It is important to note that as soon as the chimpanzees are seen, an extra one hour will be given to you in their presence as you are taking photos of their young ones playing with their mothers. After returning to the office for your trekking certificate and drive to your lodge for your prepared lunch.
Head for an evening canopy walks quite another rewarding activity where you have a high chance of spotting wildlife in the jungle. The activity takes 2-3 hours on a highly suspended canopy raised up at 60 metres high above the forest. This will give you an aerial view of the park and spot some primates and other animals in the park including the bird species singing in their natural habitat. Retreat back to your lodge for your evening meals.
Day 4: Drive back to Kigali city and fly back home
This is the last day of your 4 days of Nyungwe chimps and colobus monkeys in Rwanda. This will begin with a well-served breakfast and having done with it, check out heading to Kigali international airport for your flight.
