A safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda offers more than big game encounters. With our 4-day tour to Queen Elizabeth N. Park, you will engage in chimpanzee and lion tracking. A chimpanzee trek in Queen Elizabeth N/Park will be done in Kyambura Gorge where some chimpanzee communities have undergone habituation and lion tracking allows you to have a deep understanding of lion behaviors.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is a savanna park located in Western Uganda, and it is the country’s 2nd largest park sitting on a land area of 1978sq.km. This park hosts 4 of the big game exclusive of only rhinos, and a total of 620 bird species plus other mammals do reside in the same park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth Park for a wildlife tour

Day one will be spent traveling from Kampala along the Masaka-Mbarara route, an enriching route when it comes to tourist sites. At Kayabwe, you will have a stopover at the Equator crossing for photography, and at Igongo cultural center, settle for a leisurely traditional meal. After, you will continue to the Western part of Uganda to check in at the lodge inside or around Queen Elizabeth N. Park.

Day 2: Lion tracking, boat tour in Queen Elizabeth national Park

Enjoy a hefty breakfast at a lodge, after, meet your guide ready to start the lion tracking experience along Kasenyi Plains. Yo have adequate time to explore more about lions, renowned kings of the jungles, take pictures, and there is a chance to keep an eye on other wildlife, birds, and others.

After lunch, you will be transferred to Mweya where you will embark on a 2 hours boat cruise. This recreational experience allows you to enjoy the sights of hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic birds.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge

A hefty breakfast will be enjoyed at the lodge after you will drive to Kyambura Gorge for a briefing about chimpanzee tracking rules. The park guide will accompany you on a trek to see Kyambura Gorge chimpanzees, and other primates will be spotted including the vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, etc. Once you have come across the Kyambura Gorge chimps, settle for one hour of a close encounter and photography, then return to the lodge for relaxation.

Note, observe a distance of 8 meters from chimps when taking pictures/enjoying a face-to-face encounter to limit the spread of infectious human diseases. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive or community/cultural tour in the nearby community to Queen Elizabeth N.P.

Day 4: Return from Queen Elizabeth Park to Kampala

A leisurely breakfast early, followed by a check out of the lodge and you drive back to Kampala. As you leave the park, don’t miss the sights of wildlife like elephants, buffaloes, birds, and more. Lunch will be served to you at Mbarara or enjoy the packed one your lodge will provide, and in Kampala/Entebbe, get dropped off at a hotel for evening relaxation.
