5 Days Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking & Wildlife Safari

In these 5 days Akagera and Nyungwe National Park safari, you will enjoy a lot from Rwanda a land of a thousand hills it will start from Kigali and end from Kigali and your Safari will be as follows. On the first day when you arrive in Kigali, you are going spend a night there and on the second day, you are going to drive to Akagera National Park for a game drive and a boat cruise on Ihema.

Still, on your 5 days at Akagera and Nyungwe National Park, transfer to Nyungwe forest national park home to 20 species of primates including the endangered chimpanzees and take part in chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk which is the only one in the whole of East Africa.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Today when you land at Kigali International airport, the company representative will welcome and take you through a short briefing and then transfer you to the hotel where you are going to spend your dinner since you are going to arrive late.

Day 2: Drive to Akagera National Park and evening game drive

Wake up to an early breakfast at the hotel, and drive to Akagera National Park with good scenic views of the lakes found in this Park and it is which is the only savannah Park in Rwanda located in the North Eastern part of the county. This Park is well blessed with a lot of biodiversity including the big 5 animals. Check-in at the lodge for lunch then embark on your evening game drive in Akagera.

While on your game drive, you will be stunned with views of animals like elephants, zebras, buffaloes, rhinoceros, giraffes and primates also can be spotted as they are feeding in the evening. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning boat cruise and drive back to Kigali

Be served with a delicious breakfast then head for a morning boat launch on Lake Ihema one of the lakes found in Akagera National Park. It is only on this lake that a boat cruise is carried out and it gives you a chance of looking at hippos, crocodiles, and visitor animals like elephants, zebras and buffaloes that come to quench their thirst during the day. A lot of birds on the shoes will be looked at including shoe bill stock.  Retreat to the lodge for lunch and after driving back to Kigali city and before checking in at the hotel, head for a short city tour to visit the Kigali genocide memorial site, Kimironko Market and several more beautiful places in Kigali.  Move to the hotel for the night.

Day 4: Drive to Nyungwe forest national park and canopy walk

Having had breakfast in the morning, check out from the hotel and start on the drive to the southern part of Rwanda where Nyungwe forest national park is found. Immediately you arrive at the lodge, enjoy your lunch and head for a canopy walk which is 50 meters above. It will give you a view of a lot of primates on the treetops since the Park is having 20 species of primates like black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys and many more. You will not only have a look at these primates but also birds and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Retreat to the lodge.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and departure

Chimpanzee trekking will begin in the morning with a heavy breakfast then drive to the park headquarters to meet the Park wardens for a briefing about chimpanzees trekking after heading to the jungle with a well-armed Park ranger guide who will help look for the allocated Chimpanzee group for you to trek. Searching for these chimpanzees takes quite a several hours but once found, one hour will be given to you as you take a close look at these endangered primates, taking photos and asking the guide anything you may want to know about chimpanzees.

Move back to the lodge and have lunch thereafter, drive back to Kigali and fly back to your home country.
