Go on a life-changing journey to the Republic of Rwanda’s north-eastern region with this 5 Days Gorilla and Karisimbi adventure. Although it requires a certain level of physical fitness, mountain karisimbi hike is enjoyable. The Virunga massif’s tallest volcano and eleventh highest in all of Africa is this one.
Elevation of this dormant volcano is 4507 meters above sea level. You will track the endangered mountain gorillas, see them playing, nursing, and other activities in their natural habitat. The world’s largest ape species, mountain gorillas can only be found in Africa. A city tour of Kigali, boat excursion on the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo and photography are all included in this tour. The safari starts and ends in Kigali-Rwanda.
Detailed Trip.
Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.
On this day, the unforgettable safari experience officially begins. After meeting a local guide and providing you with briefing in Kigali, you will be driven to Volcanoes National Park, which is home to numerous critically endangered mountain gorillas as well as the 11th tallest mountain peak in Africa, dormant Mount Karisimbi. Drive for roughly two to three hours to your lodge, sign in and wait for the lunch, dinner, and overnight.
Day 2: Ascend to Mount. Karisimbi.
You’ll start the day with delicious breakfast at the lodge and then you’ll go to the trailhead for a briefing. Following briefing, the 6-7-hour hike that begins while one enjoys mountain backdrops, lush foliage and primates that you might encounter from the starting point.
The length of this hike depends on one’s health. On your journey to the summit, you might run into various monkeys, birds and forest creatures. Lunch is served enroute to the peak. The stunning sunset, rich foliage, and primates who feed and relax at the mountain slopes may all be seen from your tent in the evening. After dinner and the night fall, retire to your campground and get some sleep.
Day 3: Descend from Mount. Karisimbi and visit Twin Lakes in the evening.
You will enjoy photography after a leisurely early breakfast at the campsite and then you will descend down to the mountain’s base to meet your driver guide. Then proceed to your lodge to unwind and enjoy lunch.
After lunch, you’ll spend some time at the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, where you can take photos, have a boat trip and socialize with locals while eating and drinking. Dinner and a restful night’s sleep bring the day to a close.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
Following an early breakfast at the lodge, you’ll take packed lunch and other trekking essentials, then head to the park headquarters where ranger guides will give you briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda, assign you to a gorilla group and then accompany you to where the troop is expected to be.
An hour is spent photographing, observing the gorillas, and listening to ranger guide’s narrations during the 2 to 8 hours of trekking. After lunch in the wilderness, retreat back to the lodge to wind down after the day’s adventure. Stay at the lodge for dinner and night rest.
Day 5: Departure.
After filling up on a hearty breakfast at the lodge, leave the park for Kigali, where you’ll take a city tour, learn about the history of Genocide and its aftermath, try your negotiating skills with local vendors at craft markets and centers, and savor a mouthwatering lunch. After that, head to the airport for your departure or next location in Rwanda.
