5 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari

Safari details

Day one: Travel from Kigali to Akagera N/Park

Enjoy breakfast early in the hotel, and after, meet and greet your driver guide/tour leader in Rwanda. You will begin your trip with the Kigali city tour which allows you to visit the Gisozi genocide center Kimironko market, and other incredible sites, then transfer to Akagera N/P 2 hours and 30 minutes drive.

Day two: Game drive and boat tour at Akagera NP

Begin exploring Akagera National Park early in the morning, and set off for a guided game drive starting at 6:00 am. This is expected to last for 2-3 hours, and in your 4×4 safari car with pop-up, you will have an interrupted view of the big 5 game- elephants, cape buffaloes, leopards, lions, rhinos; antelopes like the roan antelopes, warthogs, Masai giraffes, etc.

Lunch will be provided when you return from game viewing, and you will proceed for a boat ride on Lake Ihema in Akagera Park. The 2-3 hours boat cruise excursion will allow you to enjoy the sights of aquatic life like hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.

Day three: Leave Akagera for Volcanoes N / Park

After breakfast, board your 4×4 tourist vehicle and exit Akagera while spotting wildlife as they roam. Proceed to Volcanoes Park in Ruhengeri, Northwestern Rwanda where mountain gorillas reside. 12 habituated gorilla groups reside within Volcanoes N/Park including Kwitonda, Amahoro, Umubano, Hirwa, Ugenda, Susa A, Sabyinyo, Karisimbi, Titus, and others.

Day four: Gorilla Tracking

Wake up strong, enjoy a hefty breakfast, pack some snacks and some bottled drinking water then proceed for briefing and allocation of gorilla families at Kinigi. At 8:00 am, you will be set for an actual visit to see mountain gorillas in the wild and this is 2-6 hours of trekking through the forest.

As you search for gorillas, higher chances are that you will also come across a variety of other animals. A magical encounter and photography will be had for one full hour, then you return to have a leisure lunch followed by a cultural tour experience at Iby’Iwacu village.

Day five: Golden monkeys & departure

Have breakfast early in the morning, after which, you will head to Kinigi once again to get briefed about golden monkey tracking rules. The park official will assign you a park guide to escort you on a search for golden monkeys, 2-4 hours’ adventure with one hour of a magical encounter/interaction.

Return from the golden monkey magical encounter, check out of the lodge and leave with a packed lunch/enjoy it at the lodge before setting off to Kigali. At Kigali, you will be dropped off at a hotel/airport, and it will mark the end of the 5 days Akagera & Volcanoes NP safari.
