Trekking with gorillas during the dry season

There have been many questions that what could be the best time to do gorilla trekking in Africa and most people are still confused about the time favourable for gorilla trekking. Gorilla trekking is an exciting activity and one of the most rewarding activities which are done in Uganda in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga national park. There are other gorilla destinations such as the volcanoes national park in Rwanda and Virunga national park and Kahuzi biega national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The activity involves visitors moving into the tropical rain forests and as soon as they land on them, they spend an hour with them in their presence.

Gorilla trekking can be carried out well during the dry seasons and which is the time when there is less rainfall. The dry season usually ranges between June to august and December to February and during these months, it gets hot during the daytime and with a temperature of 30 degrees Celcius dropping down to as low as 10 degrees Celcius at night. The dry season is better for trekking simply because during this time the gorilla trekking trails are passable and dry to the trekking destinations as well as making it easy for hiking to the rainforests in search of these animals until you reach them.

The dry season is again favourable for visitors interested in gorilla trekking because during this time the roads are easily accessed mostly those joining the main trekking sectors of Bwindi impenetrable national park, Mgahinga national park, volcanoes national park, Virunga national park and Kahuzi biega national park the roads there will be passable compared to when it is the rainy season the time when the trails are muddy, slippery and wet with don’t allow easy movement of vehicles to the trekking sectors.

Trekking gorillas during the dry season is good because, during this time, the bushes and shrubs are always short which will give you a clear view of the gorillas in the tropical forests and other wildlife animals grazing in the parks hence an opportunity to take as many and clear photos as possible not forgetting videos that will make your trekking safari to Africa more colourful and interesting.

Though gorilla trekking in the dry season is considered the best time for trekking gorillas, it has also its challenges such as gorilla permit bookings. The gorilla permits tend to be high compared to permits during the rainy or low seasons because more people will be ordered to visit the parks during dry seasons than in the rainy season. The permits are in high demand and get sold off quickly hence a call for visitors to book their permits early at least 3 moths before the date of trekking to secure their permits and avoid last-minute booking which in most cases you may not find any available permit.

Another challenge most travellers are likely to encounter during gorilla trekking in the dry season is that most of the accommodation facilities such as hotels, lodges and beaches are more expensive compared to when it is during the rainy or low season because they tend to receive more visitors hence find stiff competition for services with clients. This is not the case with the rainy season because lodges and hotels tend to discount their accommodation services hence favouring budget travellers. All in all, gorilla trekking is better for visitors travelling during the dry season for good sightings and views of the environment and animals in the wild.
