Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Its current name was derived from Ruwenzori which means “cloud-King” or “rain maker” in the local language. Mount. Rwenzori was also referred to as the “mountains of the moon” by Alexandrine a geographer in AD 150. Mount. Rwenzori is a block mountain formed due to faulting in the western rift valley and this sets it apart from the common mountains in East Africa that were formed as a result of vulcanicity. Its glaciers melt and pour their waters into the river Nile – world’s longest river. Its area cover is at 996 km2 spanning across the districts of Kasese, Kabarole and Bundibugyo.
